On May 23rd, Kansas City is building a water slide called Verruckt, which is the world’s largest and tallest water slide. It will be located in the city’s Schlitterbahn Water Park. The word “Verruckt” comes from German, which means insane. The water park officers do not know how tall it is yet until the opening day. They hope to be in the Guinness World Record because of the height of this water slide. They are thinking it might be taller than the Niagara Falls or the Statue of Liberty, which would measure at least 17-stories tall.
Those people who are going to take the fall will began their journey by climbing the 264-steps that will take them to the top of the water slide. They will be seated in a four-person inflatable raft and set loose. The company does not know how fast they will fall until the opening day, but they will confirm if it is faster than 65 miles per hour.
A guy named Jeff Henry, who co-owns the theme park, is the designer. Jeff is responsible for designing the special conveyer system that carries the rafts back up. The slide tower is built from railroad tanker cars that have been cut and joined into a single vertical tower. Verruckt is currently testing so that it is completely safe for those that are brave or crazy enough to ride it when it opens this Memorial Day Weekend.
